CEERT created a program to develop a social consciousness committed to the defense of freedom of belief and the repudiation of all forms of religious intolerance. In partnership with the Social Service of the Commerce Sector (SESC-SP) and the National Institute for Afro-Brazilian Culture and Traditions (Intecab-São Paulo), the Center launched the “Campaign in Defense of the Freedom of Belief and Against Religious Intolerance” in 2004. Important legal victories have been won, such as the recognition of marriages performed by Afro-Brazilian religions and the right to petition against television programs that demonize these religions.
